Members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) in Mamelodi arrested a male suspect on 22 April 2026 for housebreaking and theft.
The suspect was apprehended in Nellmapius following a housebreaking and armed robbery incident. The perpetrator allegedly forced entry into the victim’s home, held the victim at gunpoint, and fled with various items.
TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said that upon arriving at the scene, officers were informed by the victim that she recognised the perpetrator and knew where he lived. Officers then escorted the victim to the identified address, where they located the suspect.
He said a subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of stolen property, which was positively identified by the victim. Officers also discovered and confiscated a firearm believed to have been used during the robbery. The suspect is currently detained at a local police station.
Meanwhile, the Tshwane Metro Police Department also conducted road safety operations this month in the Cullinan and Soshanguve precincts, as well as along the N1 and N4 highways over the weekend.
“During the operations, 12 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, TMPD members in Mamelodi arrested 16 pedestrians for endangering themselves by being on the highway, as it is prohibited for pedestrians to be on highways,” Mahamba said.
Mahamba added that these operations are crucial in reducing road fatalities and ensuring the safety of all road users within the City of Tshwane.
