Police in Tshwane recently intensified efforts to combat crime through a coordinated law enforcement operation in the Pretoria Moot and Eersterust policing precincts, working alongside various law enforcement agencies.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 331 suspects and the seizure of drugs.
Led by Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine, the operation brought together various SAPS units and key stakeholders, including the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Gauteng Provincial Traffic, and local Community Policing Forums (CPFs).
Tshwane Police Communication Coordinator Johan van Dyk told Mo’Kasi Uncut that detectives once again demonstrated their expertise in tracking and tracing wanted suspects, leading to 290 arrests. Among those arrested were four suspects for murder, three for armed robbery, and five for rape. An additional 91 individuals were arrested on charges related to gender-based violence.
“Uniformed units maintained a strong presence through high-visibility roadblocks and patrols, during which 648 people and 322 vehicles were searched. A total of 28 undocumented immigrants were detained and are being processed by immigration officials for deportation,” said Van Dyk.
He added that liquor law enforcement remained a key priority, with seven outlets inspected. One of the premises was fined for violating the Liquor Act. Additionally, traffic authorities issued 195 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R98,930 for various road traffic violations, and nine vehicles were impounded for being unroadworthy.
“In targeted patrols across nine identified crime hotspots, police intercepted and arrested 10 suspects for possession of drugs after various substances were found in their possession,” Van Dyk concluded.
