Members of the Atteridgeville Saulsville Sports Recreation Council, together with hawkers from Atteridgeville and Saulsville, recently organised a prayer session at the Atteridgeville Community Hall to pray against the high rate of crime and drug abuse in the area.
Sophie Dlamini from the Atteridgeville Saulsville Sports Recreation Council told the Tshwane Sun that the prayer session was organised in partnership with the Pheli Hawkers Forum and other community members.
“Due to the increasing gun violence, killings, school transport accidents, house robberies and other criminal activities happening in our community, we cannot remain silent. ATTSAUL, ASSREC and the Pheli Hawkers Forum are calling on all community members to come together in unity for a community prayer,” she said.
Dlamini added that it was time for the community to stand together and seek divine intervention.
“It is time for us to stand together, pray together, and ask God for peace, protection and healing in our community. We organised this prayer session to encourage residents to unite and ask God to intervene and help stop the crime taking place in Atteridgeville. We also want to encourage community members to stand together in fighting the scourge of drug abuse,” she said.
She further expressed concern about the growing number of young people turning away from sport.
“Many of our youth are no longer involved in sports. Instead, they are abusing drugs and destroying their future,” she added.
Dlamini said the organisers are also planning another prayer session specifically for young people.
“We want to organise another prayer gathering to pray for the youth in our community. We urge community members to come together in large numbers so that we can pray together for divine protection.”
